What makes Volunteer Optical so special?

Perhaps it's the laboratory?

Your order is received and entered into the main computer. We trace the frames *(if available) on our tracer which transfers the tracing information automatically to your computerized order.

The computer prints a work ticket for your order which exactly specifies the lenses to use as well as the technical information concerning your prescription. The lenses are picked from our Lektriever Lens Cabinet. Then the lenses are edited at our verify work station.

When your order reaches the generator station, the generator knows precisely how to grind your lens.

After surfacing, the lenses are ready for edging, assembly with frames and/or shipment. (The tracer tells the edger station the exact size and shape the lens needs to be).

After the lenses are edged, they may be tinted and/or coated to your specifications.

Even with the automation, most of the credit for our fast turn around goes to our lab personnel. Unlike many labs we have been able to retain skilled employees. At a recent training session, we tallied our years of experience. We are proud to say that the total is over 350 combined years of experience here at Volunteer! The lab staff also regularly review production efficiency reports to identify and improve performance.

We are excited about planned future enhancements to make the lab run even better.

Maybe it's the office staff?

Pre-Lab Production

We conscientiously strive to perform the functions involved to move your RX order to the lab accurately and quickly. We also constantly check inventory levels so that we have the necessary lenses on hand for your work as well as stock lenses that you may need at your office.

Customer Service

We answer the phone to take your orders and check the progress of an order that is in process. We welcome any questions you may have about products and services. The office staff constantly strive to improve our customer service through staff meetings and regular training sessions.

Inventory Management

Our computer keeps track of our bar-coded lens inventory so that we may service your account expediently. Based on minimum and maximum desired quantities, we place orders to our lens suppliers via modem each day. 90% of the lens ordered from our suppliers are received here the next day. Most special orders arrive within a week of being ordered. Stock lens, frames and supply sales are also tracked on our computer.

Billing

We meticulously watches over invoicing to insure accuracy in lab service billing. Our accounts receivable personnel  is available to clarify any question concerning your statement.
